Bit old (happened just before Christmas) but I think we can start with this (even though he is not in Finnish Team now.) Löde with (quite badly, I think, it needed operating) broken leg. :down:

Möglich. Ich vermute eher nen psychologisches Problem. Naja, der wird schon wieder,der Kleene. Dafuer is er stark genug.

Yeah. I'm patting myself on the back whole time for this :party:
But really, it's something I probably should work on. Maybe not,then it comes to ski jumping (Finns are just giving too much great opportunities to bitch :duck:) but I found myself bitching on my Facebook account because we were without electricity and high water blocked the road so there was no going anywhere the whole day at boxing day. In reality there was nothing to really bitch. Our garden tables etc. were tied up to the trees so they didn't escape and I was not rowing after them to the Gulf of Finland (that did happen one Christmas some years ago), during the day light I had a pleasure to play with my sweet little goddaughter with all her new toys and after it was dark, I was burning wood in the fireplace and reading the book I got for Christmas in candlelight. Of course you couldn't open the freezer and there was no running water, but still, no biggie. And I was whining in the Facebook like it would had been a biggie. Naughty me. Better to really shape up.

Day off! Other guys went to jump but a had a long night sleep and a good breakfast instead of early wake up. Weather looks nice so i was planning to go to make a easy jogging outside :) Then lunch and 60km drive to Innsbruck. Have a nice day! :)

Today Matti told the different side of his 'good training in G.' He indeed jumped around 135 meters - once, his other 10 jumps were all bad. ;)

-This was not the worst 4 Hills in the history of Finnish ski jumping. It was worse 1974-74 when Jouko Törmänen was the best Finn and 22nd. :phew: :party::pffft:
AND (and this one really is positive, if true (nothing but the truth etc), will happen, is not stopped after two months and all the other normal and much needed reservations when talking about Finnish jumping and Finnjumping :pffft:)
-Finnjumping is having a project with Finnish NOK to create ski jumping schools for kids to as many different towns as possible and they are hiring pro-trainers for over 15-year-olds to the biggest ski jumping centrums. :up:

Yep. It will take time. But this is, what it is. And for the long time, this is, what they should be doing.
And fortunately we have Ville. If his knee will work, he could save a lot. And you never know, how Jarkko will end up. Situation is, what it is and now we need to keep nose above the water few years and build a new. I really hope, that they would be able to renew some old small hills and get them back to action and even build a new ones. New Lapua hill year ago was a nice start. Also I ski and run next to old and forsaken hill (maybe K-20-30) often and can only hope, they could get that and all the other of those old junior hills back to work. They pulled down the bigger hill 10 years ago and I also think they have pulled down the bigger hill from the next 'town.' I'm not sure, if they still use the small (k20) one there. And they even have had a jumper who started his career there to win WC competitions (well two, but still) in this millennium. It's sad, but hopefully there will be brighter future.
One can also only hope, that old big ski jumping towns like Kouvola, Jyväskylä etc. get their act together. They have hills, they still have knowledge, they really should start doing some junior work again.
When Havu now gets time to recover (I doubt he wants to, I think he will compete....) and they also stop Ville to come back to hills this winter, they can cover together with Anssi a while, so that Jarkko has time without pression to come to solid jumps and leartn how worldcup works...
And then juniors can come
But with no work with children. there is no chance that youngs are coming
I just looked to Minisalpausselkä, the boys are coming mostly from Lahti and Kuopio....
But in Switzerland we have the same problem: almost no small hill for children... And when there is one no one who knows it... In Bern are 2 small hills (25 and 40) but almost noone is jumping there...
I know it, because I'm interested, but when I went up once with collegues, they wondered, that there is a hill, also ones with children in best age to begin!

Today's positive (;) :pffft:, yeah, my New Year resolution is having a hard time living on :aetsch:):
Two days ago Pekka Niemelä talked how national team needed more help. He also talked about how the system of personal trainer-jumper pairs that has been foundation of Finnish success has been crumbling (except Jari Larinto-Ville Larinto pair) and unfortunately he doesn't anymore get the competition ready jumpers like head coaches before him. [ääh, I don't know if I'm confused but I kind of remember him wanting out of the personal triner system year ago :häh: ] But anyway, he wants the experienced trainers back to working with jumpers.
Day later Tommi Nikunen answered to call and offered his help. And now he has thought hard over a night and today he knows what is wrong with Finnish jumping and how to fix it; there is simply not enough work done with physical side and not enough importance put to that test there they jump straight up. He goes on and tells how in last years only two Finnish new jumpers has made it on the top and they both had one thing in common and that is amazing results in that test and their strong physique, which can only be obtain by hard and dedicated physical training and sacrifices. Those two jumpers are Ville Larinto and Harri Olli (yeah, you read right, no spelling mistake or confusing him to someone else, same guy who according to Nikunen never trained or did any serious work and with whom he always wondered how good he would had been had he even once tried to actually train :hihi:)
Rewriting the history seems to be high on hobby lists of Finnish ski jumping head coaches :duck:
Pekka had one year the same position about personnel trainer, that's very long... :pffft:

Yes, Rane was the long time the best in the test, Nikunen was talking about younger jumpers here. Best ever is Mika Laitinen, Rane is a good second, but apparently Ville has scored same/almost same as Rane at his best. And to my knowledge Nikunen is not really lying about Hapa either. He has probably never been in same figures as Rane or Ville (I think around 74 cm at their very best), but he was on the top part of the team mostly and in the good range. Hapa never liked a test or thought it important and never told his exact results in public, but told they were good enough and at the range. He was often asked about how he did in that test by different reporters in many interviews (this test is like a holy cow in Finnish jumping and even more so in Finnish jumping media (maybe because that is something that is easy to understand and compare, ski jumping technique is indeed difficult to understand and write about)) but he always either talked his way around the matter or simply declined to tell. Also his trainers never told his exact results (probably because he had told them not to.) Many took this as a sign he did very poorly, but I remember at least Löde saying at times that Hapa was in the better part of the team in this, but never telling numbers. Nikunen now says that also Hapa has had results starting with 7, which is considered very high. I think most of the Finns jump around 65. But still Nikunen mentioning Hapa, physical fitness and hard work in the same sentence without a negative feels really weird :hihi:
And my thinking positive is slowly but surely sliding more and more towards bitching about positive thinking :pffft: Not a big surprise there :zunge2: :D:

- Apparently Finnjumping is going to send four guys to CoC Bischofshofen and they are actually doing selection of whom they are sending based on Vuokatti competion. Maybe. Doesn't that sound like some kind of professionally working organisation, or what? :party: :party:

Gleich mal ne Meinung abgegeben!
So, ich hab das nun gelesen und nachdem ich jetzt 4 Monate in Lahti lebte, es tut mir leid, aber mit dem Essen das ist wahr! Ich hab noch nie so widerlichen Salat gegessen wie in Finnland :( So leid es mir tut.
Das mit dem Verhalten auf Konzerten von finnischen Künstlern innerhalb Finnlands, auch das ist wahr. Auf Konzerten von internationalen Bands hingegen, gehen auch die Finnen ab wie Zäpfchen.
Die Weihnachtsmärkte in Finnland sind ein Trauerspiel, man sieht, dass sie aus Deutschland rüber geschwappt sind.
ABER und das ist wichtig: Das mit dem Alkohol hab ich nie so erlebt, die meisten Finnen tranken Bier und die Betrunkenen auf der Fähre nach Tallinn waren Russen und Schweden und keine Finnen!
UND die Stadt Helsinki (für mich der einzige hässliche Fleck Finnlands) ist nicht die einzigste Stadt laut meiner Ansicht.
Ich war ja auch mal 8 Monate in KPO und ich muss sagen so schlimm fand ich den Salat gar nicht.
Natürlich gibt es in Finnland nicht so viel heimisches frisches Obst und Gemüse wie in den Mittelmeerländern (kann es ja gar nicht) aber ich hab noch nirgends so leckere Erdbeeren gegessen wie dort oben.
Walderdbeeren ohne Ende, Blaubeeren usw - hmmm!!!
Und Piroggen sind doch lecker.
Ach ja, Nudeln und Hackfleisch gibts in Italia wie in Finnland.
In Sachen Alk muss ich dir zustimmen, ich hab in Finnland nur einen Besoffenen gesehen, in München jede Menge.
Die meisten finnischen Städte sind aus meiner Sicht kein Hit, die Landschaft außenrum ist toll.
Aber so ein Artikel ist eine Schande für eine so renommierte Zeitung wie die Süddeutsche.:down::down::down:
Das mit dem Essen ist halt wirklich Geschmackssache. Ich hab auch schon wirklich schrecklich gegessen, aber auch schon richtig gut. Kann einem aber anderswo genau so passieren.nAm liebsten kocht man doch halt selbst.
Entscheidend ist ja mit was für Menschen man isst und nicht das, was auf den Tisch kommt. ;)
Das Essen bei meiner finnischen Gastmama ist wie für mich gemacht. Ich ess da so gerne :D Aber da nehme ich auch immer zu.
Vielleicht kommt es auf die Ecken an, aber ich bin gerne mal in Helsinki, finde es da nicht hässlich.

When next season comes they will need straitjacket, towrope and tractor to get him closer than one kilometre of any hill. I hate to say this, but he should had called it quits last spring. Last season was partly good for him and he even seemed to like ski jumping at times. This season he wasn't motivated to train at summer (he really started around August), and now he seems absolutely miserable and is making also everyone around him as miserable. Not a good way to end a great career.
Theres something positive today? Hm...Really? :idee:

Daraus geht nur hervor, dass er in Zakopane nicht dabei ist
Bei Finnjumping und auch in den finnischen Medien steht immer nur Zakopane
Alles andere ist im Moment noch reine Spekulation, er kann in Willingen sein oder auch nicht

But I was at work and didn't see a competition at all and have to ask: Were they that good, or was this competition total wind lottery? MTV3 and coaches are of course hypeing it like no tomorrow, but somehow the results look like luck has something to do with it, though Finnish coaches are saying that Havu and Anssi didn't get any help from winds but were indeed the more unlucky ones in the competition.
Ich denke, sie hatten nicht ausgesprochen viel mehr Glück mit dem Wind. Andere hatten es besser, aber manche auch schlechter. Havu hat mir heute gut gefallen. Er konnte seine Platzierung im Finale verteidigen. Anssi hatte im 1. Durchgang nicht wirklich guten Wind. Daher war es, denke ich, auch ein guter Wettkampf von Beiden. Vor allem für Havu.

Ne schlecht wird einem bei der ewigen schlechten Stimmung hier , wenn andere Springer anderer Nationen im Laufe der Saison immer besser werden freut sich jeder mit , aber bei den Finnen ist das schon fast was außerirdisches , traurig sowas ...

Yesterday I was in Kuopio and I saw Matti jumping. The first jump was a jump like we like to see: good timing, great skis, nice height, excellent distance (over 130m) and telemark. But then the other 9 jumps were very bad. Between 80 and 110m. Kai was there too. He never reached 100m and he was jumping with 2 more gates. Guess who was the best jumper? Yes, you are right: Jussi! He was regular: 100-120m. He did 5 jumps. He was smiling and very happy. It was contrasting with Matti that seemed to be in bad mood.

Niinistö will be a clear number 1, but it will most likely go to the second round and he has been coming down fast lately (will still win the second round if miracles will not happen.)
It's more interesting to see, who will be second. Haavisto and Väyrynen seem to be quite even. You never know about Soini, others are not doing that well. Anyway, Niinistö will be the next president, because Väyrynen would be a joke, most of the people hate Soini and there are too many people who have too much problem with Haavisto being a) gay and having Ecuadorian husband and/or b) being from the Green party. Still hoping him to be at the second round, because that would at least make a competition out of it (even I got over the fact, that he is Green party candidate, so I think that many others are also able to forgive him that, because he himself is a pragmatic and realistic guy.)

Now they have a results from the votes given before the voting day. Niinistö 40 %, Väyrynen second with 17,8 % and Haavisto third 14,7 %, Soini fourth 9,5 %. They had counted beforehand, that Väyrynen would need 5 % lead to Haavisto in early votes (people who are more likely to vote him are more likely to vote early.) He didn't get that, so we will see. Especially when it has seemed like Haavisto has been rising quickly in the last days.
Oh, I almost forgot; today's positive:
Lion Puppies won gold on ice hockey after winning Russia in final on shoot-out in Innsbruck at Junior Olympics. And this is the 96 vintage that is considered less talented than that before and after them.

Er is etwas gewachsen. Vielleicht läufts dewegen auch nich so rund wie letzte Saison..
By the way, Finland has chosen a new president. Sauli Niinistö won (as expected from the beginning) with gaining 62,6 % of votes in second round. Pekka Haavisto still did surprisingly well with his 37,4 %.
Let's just hope Niinistö will now have enough to do to overcome his grumpiness that has been ailing him last few years, and probably because he has not had anything interesting to do while trying to avoid all kinds of controversies and preparing for presidency during last six years. If the grumpiness is not caused by boredom but something else, I'm afraid we will be suffering the constantly whining and nitpicking president for next six years. (Yeah, he used to be much more dynamic and much less grumpy before he step to the side to prepare for this year election six years ago.)
Today's positive:
Apparently Baby-Ville did well on those 'how high you can jump'-tests Finns love so much. He is only around 10 centimetres behind his best scores and rehab is still going on, so it seems he is on the way back to his former self physically (and he is already 10 cm above Havu's current scores.) Ville's trainer is very, very happy with the results :up:

Krank ist er ja schon seit der Reise nach Japan. Daumen drücken, dass er da nichts verschleppt hat. Er hatte ja auch keine Pause seit Kuusamo.
Ich glaub es wäre gescheiter für ihn, wenn nicht fürs ganze Team die Tour sausen zu lassen und sich in Ruhe auszukurieren und auf die WM vorzubereiten.

Das wäre nicht unser Anssi wenn er das tuen würden. Er kreiselt zwar nicht mehr, aber Anssi-ich-bin-alt-genug-um-mich-allein-umzubringen-Koivuranta is er immer noch. ;)
Reissen werden sie bei der WM wahrscheinlich eh nichts. Matti ist zu unkonstant.

das muss ich euch jetzt mal erzählen: ich bin am samstag mit meinen eltern heimgelaufen von der schanze. Da sind 2 mädels mit ihren eltern hinter uns gelaufen und erzählen so: wir haben autogramme von kamil stoch, roman koudelka, janne happonen und achtung nun kommts: harri olli. Ich hab mich fast gekringelt :hihi:

Matti not happy with his season and wants to mentally start it over from this point on and forget the earlier season. After his training break he thought it would be better, but he screwed it up anyway. He thinks he was expecting too much from himself and that made too much pressure. But he says that while his season has been bad, there has been some good jumps also and he hopes it will now turn for the better. Then little bit about how most ski jumpers make their living from prize money and how his season has been bad also in that account.

Yeah. The Ilta-Sanomat reporter has talked with (at least) two Finnish top coaches, who think, that while they well understand and sympathise how difficult the situation is, the results from this year have not been good enough and Finnjumping should strongly consider not using those 2 optio years they have left with Pekka and think about changeing a headcoach come spring.
Coaches have also commented, how Hautamäki's jumping technique has been bad whole season and Niemelä has not been able to motivate him enough. How Happonen's comeback has not been what was hoped for and that Niemelä has not been able to get Koivuranta really out of his comfort zone and work like he should be.
In MTV3 Matti comments these comments and says, that it's in no way Pekka fault that his jumping sucks, but his own.
It's mainly MTV3 trying to stir some shit. The criticism in the Ilta-Sanomat is rather mild and understandable (it really may be for example very difficult to get sponsors for next year, if they don't even change anything.) There simply is no way, this season can be called success. And of course Matti is backing up Pekka, when asked. Even if Porttila had asked from some jumper, who is more in opposition for Pekka, they would had said they back up their coach. And Matti certainly is not that opposition.

Allerdings frage ich mich, was man von Janne erwarten soll? Sollte er wieder so ausserirdisch zurück kommen wie letztes Jahr oder was? Es is doch wohl langfristig besser wenn er langsam und dafür komplett aufbaut als wenn er wieder mit der Brechstange dran geht und wieder gegen sein Knie verliert...:rolleyes:
I kind of understand, why they gave those comments anonymously. Those are some small circles and things easily go personal. The critique here really wasn't personal (or anyway vicious), but giving it under their own names would had made it your normal 'he is just saying so because a jumper he trains have not done so well this year', 'well, how well they did, when he was in charge', 'he just wants the job for himself' etc. blaablaablaa.
And Yeti, if I understand correctly, the comments about Anssi were not meant that he has done badly or been lazy, but that he could do even better, if trainers would be able to challenge him to try more new things in training etc. also.
Of course I have to say, that I kind of agree with those anonymous coaches. It's not that Pekka is a bad trainer, but these two years have been bad. Finnish ski jumping is in free fall and while changing the head coach may not help any, I'm also afraid that continuing like this will make it worse. With the new head coach they could at least try to sell 'the new era' or something. I can't believe, that I'm saying this, but I would be totally okay, if AaPee would be the Finnish head coach come next season... Pekka simply does not have much credibility left.
EDIT: Oh, and instead, or with, Nikunen I would guess Kykkänen and maybe some Ounasvaara coaches...

Maybe continuing with rehab and physical training until he would be fit enough to succeed? Havu has not been a star in that 'jumping test' they love, but apparently just now he is so far behind (54 cm instead his best that has been around 64-65 cm), that he simply is not fit enough to be able to do well. And it is difficult to do physical training while you are whole time competing and travelling.

Pekka wasn't a bad choice! Matti was second in Kuopio last season, Ville L. was good! They were under the Top 10! Problem is, that money will be even less if they can not sell at least hope of the better times. And many have difficult time to believe that Pekka could be the one to change the direction they have been going. It's not that Pekka would be a bad trainer, but after two years of this decline, it will be very hard to sell sponsors that next year he will be able to change things better.

Pekka ist sicher ein guter Trainer, aber bei den Finnen lief es nicht
Und den Sponsoren ist eine halbe Saison wo es gut lief und eineinhalb wo es nicht so gut bis sehr schlecht lief ein Grund zu sagen, dass was geändert werden muss

Ich hoffe echt das er nicht aufhört er ist noch viel zu jung dafür , hat man schon bei vielen Sportlern gesehen die dann wieder zurück kamen ...

Even Iltalehti has noticed, that Finnish ski jumping kind of misses Harri Olli. They tried to find out, if he would be planning a comeback. Apparently they could not reach Hapa himself (no surprise there, I'm sure he does not answer his phone, when he sees it's Iltalehti's reporter...) so they did, what they always used to do: They called Kimmo Kykkänen. Apparently Kykkänen has had a long talk with Hapa just a week ago about his life, plans and future.
Kykkänen reports that Harri is still very content with his decision to quit ski jumping. That he feels that he got what he wanted from ski jumping and does not want to go back. Kykkänen also tells that Hapa has found a balance to his life and is happy. Apparently he is still drifting professionally and trying to figure out what he wants to do and supporting himself with odd juobs, but still, I find this a good news. Of course Finnish ski jumping could really use him, but if he is happier now, that is a good thing. And at least he has done very well in staying out of different kind of scandal headlines, so good for him. :up:

First page had a podium there Matti's picture was in the first place, second one was Eeyore (from Winnie--the-Pooh) and third place went to Droopy, The Master Detective. The sport competed was pessimism. Next two pages were an interview and selection of most depressing one liners Matti has given over the years. It was rather awesome. Do note, that this really was a tribute to Matti, the reporter is not trying to put him down or mock him. Hilarious. :D:

Ich kann es leider auch nicht richtig verstehen. Ich glaube, sie werden gefragt, wer gut Englisch kann und Matti sagt dann zwei Worte. Aber so richtig verstehen tu ichs auch nicht
